Bococizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Pfizer that targets proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a protein involved in cholesterol regulation. By binding to PCSK9, bococizumab prevents the degradation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors on liver cells, thereby increasing the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream and lowering plasma LDL-C levels. Bococizumab was investigated for the treatment and prevention of dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, cardiovascular disease, and heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. However, its development was discontinued in November 2016 due to high immunogenicity leading to anti-drug antibody formation and variable efficacy compared to other PCSK9 inhibitors[1][2][3][4][5][6].
