Boesenbergia pandurata extract, derived from the tropical plant fingerroot, is a natural product rich in the cyclohexenyl chalcone panduratin A. It exhibits a broad range of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-obesity properties. Research has focused on its potential to treat sarcopenia by activating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and inhibiting proteolysis via FoxO3a. Additionally, it has been investigated for oral health (periodontitis), skin hydration and anti-aging, and certain cancers. While primarily studied as a functional food or nutricosmetic ingredient, its development is largely academic, with significant research conducted at Yonsei University.
