Boesenbergia rotunda

Boesenbergia rotunda is a herb from the Boesenbergia genera under the Zingiberaceae family. It is widely found in Asian countries where it is commonly used as a food ingredient and in ethnomedicinal preparations. The plant contains various bioactive compounds, primarily flavonoids and chalcone derivatives (including pinocembrin, pinostrobin, alpinetin, panduratin, cardamonin, quercetin, and kaempferol). B. rotunda has been traditionally used to treat rheumatism, muscle pain, febrifuge, gout, gastrointestinal disorders, and as an aphrodisiac. Scientific studies have demonstrated its anti-allergic, antibacterial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiulcer, and wound healing properties.
