Overview

Boiogito (also known as Fangji Huangqi Tang) is a traditional herbal medicine (Kampo in Japan, TCM in China) composed of several botanical ingredients, primarily Stephania tetrandra root (Fangji), Astragalus membranaceus root (Huangqi), Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome (Baizhu), and Glycyrrhiza uralensis root (Gancao). It is traditionally used to treat conditions characterized by edema, joint pain, and swelling. In modern clinical research, it is being investigated for its ability to promote joint lymphatic drainage and reduce inflammatory cytokines, thereby attenuating cartilage destruction and synovial inflammation in conditions such as knee osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic heart failure. The formula is often administered as a decoction or in pill form and is recognized for its protective effects on articular cartilage and preservation of type II collagen.
