Bombyx batryticatus, also known as Jangcan, is a traditional Chinese medicine used for treating various conditions such as convulsions, epilepsy, cough, asthma, headaches, and purpura. It contains proteins, peptides, fatty acids, flavonoids, nucleosides, steroids, coumarin, and polysaccharides. Its extracts have shown pharmacological effects including anticonvulsant, antiepileptic, anticoagulant, antitumor, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and hypoglycemic activities.
