Overview

Bometase alfa is a recombinant human activated coagulation factor VII (rFVIIa) produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. It functions as a bypassing agent in the coagulation cascade, primarily used to treat bleeding episodes in patients where traditional factor replacement is ineffective due to the presence of inhibitors. By complexing with tissue factor (TF) at the site of vascular injury, bometase alfa activates factor X and factor IX, leading to a thrombin burst that facilitates clot formation independently of factors VIII and IX. Developed by Shandong GeneLeuk Biopharmaceutical, it is currently undergoing clinical evaluation in China for indications including acquired hemophilia A and congenital hemophilia A or B with inhibitors.
