Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bomidin is a recombinant antimicrobial peptide (AMP) developed by Jiangsu Jiarui Biotechnology (also known as Jiangsu Genloci Biotechnologies). It is an optimized, truncated version of bovine myeloid antimicrobial peptide-27 (BMAP-27), specifically BMAP-18 with an N-terminal methionine to facilitate expression in *Escherichia coli*. Bomidin exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as antiviral activity against enveloped viruses (such as SARS-CoV-2, HSV-2, DENV-2, and CHIKV) by disrupting microbial membrane structures. In addition to its direct antimicrobial properties, bomidin possesses potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. It directly neutralizes lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and binds to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) to inhibit the TLR4/NF-κB pathway. Furthermore, it competitively binds to the Kelch domain of Keap1, activating the Nrf2 pathway to upregulate GPX4 and SLC7A11, thereby suppressing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis. Bomidin is being developed as a raw material for skin moisturizing, repair of allergic or damaged skin, oral/mucosal applications, and as a therapeutic candidate for inflammatory conditions such as periodontitis.
