Overview

BMP3 recombinant protein, also known as Osteogenin, is a member of the Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily and is the most abundant bone morphogenetic protein in adult bone. Historically characterized as an inhibitor of osteogenic BMPs (such as BMP-2) and a modulator of activin signaling, recent research has identified its potential therapeutic role in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). BMP3 acts by activating the protective BMP/Smad1/5/8 signaling pathway while suppressing the pro-fibrotic TGF-β/Smad2/3 pathway, thereby inhibiting pulmonary vascular and cardiac remodeling. Currently, BMP3 is primarily available as a research-grade recombinant protein from various life science reagent suppliers and is not yet an approved proprietary clinical drug.
