Overview

BoneSource is a synthetic, biocompatible, and osteoconductive bone substitute material composed of hydroxyapatite. It was originally developed by the American Dental Association Health Foundation and is marketed by Stryker. The product consists of a powder mixture of tetracalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate anhydrous which, when mixed with a sterile aqueous solution, forms a sculptable paste. This paste sets into a solid hydroxyapatite matrix at body temperature without an exothermic reaction, making it ideal for use near sensitive soft tissues or the brain. It is primarily indicated for the repair of cranial defects, filling of burr holes, and craniofacial reconstruction, where it serves as a scaffold for the inward growth of native bone tissue over time.
