Overview

BOOST cells are allogeneic, fetal liver-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) expanded from first-trimester fetal tissue. They are being developed for the treatment of severe osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a genetic disorder characterized by fragile bones due to defects in type I collagen. The therapy is designed to provide healthy MSCs that can engraft in the patient's bone and differentiate into osteoblasts, which then produce functional type I collagen. The BOOST2B clinical trial, a collaboration between Christian Medical College, Vellore, and BOOST Pharma, is evaluating the safety and efficacy of these cells when administered through both intravenous and intraosseous routes in children with severe OI.
