bOPV

bOPV (bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine) is a live-attenuated vaccine containing attenuated Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1 and 3. It is designed to induce both mucosal and systemic immunity to prevent poliomyelitis. In the context of clinical research led by the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, bOPV is being evaluated as a booster dose in children who have previously received various sequential primary immunization schedules involving either Sabin inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) or bOPV. The vaccine works by replicating in the intestinal tract, stimulating the production of secretory IgA and serum IgG antibodies, which provide protection against infection and paralytic disease caused by wild or vaccine-derived polioviruses of types 1 and 3.
