Overview

Bordetella pertussis D420 is a clinical isolate of the bacterium that causes whooping cough (pertussis). It is widely used in research and controlled human infection models to study the pathogenesis of pertussis, immune responses, and vaccine efficacy. The strain produces serotype 3 fimbriae and harbors the ptxP3 promoter for pertussis toxin[7][6]. It has been characterized by genomic analysis, including PCR for key virulence genes such as ptxA (subunit A of pertussis toxin), prn (pertactin), and fim2/fim3 (fimbriae types 2 and 3)[7]. The strain is prepared under good laboratory practice conditions for use in challenge studies[7].
