Overview

Bornamin is a topical combination cream containing recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF, also known as nepidermin) and silver sulfadiazine. Developed by Borna Biopharma, a subsidiary of Kish Medipharm, Bornamin is designed to accelerate wound healing and prevent infection in acute and chronic wounds. The epidermal growth factor component acts as an agonist of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), stimulating the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes and fibroblasts, which promotes tissue regeneration, collagen synthesis, and angiogenesis. Concurrently, silver sulfadiazine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes and cell walls, and inhibiting bacterial replication. Bornamin is approved in Iran for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (grades 1-2), burns (grades 1-3), bed sores, surgical wounds, vascular wounds, and other treatment-resistant chronic wounds.
