Overview
Bornaplate is a biosimilar of romiplostim developed by Borna Biopharma. It is a recombinant fusion protein (peptibody) consisting of an Fc antibody fragment fused to peptide sequences that bind to and activate the thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor. By mimicking endogenous thrombopoietin, Bornaplate stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes and their progenitors in the bone marrow, thereby increasing platelet production. It is approved for the treatment of chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in adult patients who have had an insufficient response to other treatments such as corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy.
