Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Borraginol EP (marketed as BORRAGINOL® EP ORAL) is an approved Category 2 over-the-counter (OTC) oral antihemorrhoidal medication developed and marketed by Amato Pharmaceutical Products in Japan. Formulated as readily soluble granules in convenient stick-type packets, it is taken orally twice a day. The active ingredients consist of three herbal drug extracts—Moutan cortex extract (peony root bark), Rosskastanien extract (horse chestnut seed), and Lithospermi radix aqueous extract (purple root)—along with vitamin E acetate (tocopherol acetate). Borraginol EP works from the inside out by improving blood circulation in the anorectal region and suppressing inflammation, thereby addressing the underlying circulatory and inflammatory mechanisms of hemorrhoids. It is indicated for the relief of symptoms such as pain, bleeding, swelling, and itching due to hemorrhoids (including internal/blind piles and bleeding hemorrhoids) and anal fissures.
