BOS-981

BOS-981 is a first-in-class, orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of furin, a member of the proprotein convertase family. Furin is a host enzyme responsible for the proteolytic activation of various precursor proteins, including those utilized by bacterial toxins (e.g., anthrax) and viral glycoproteins (e.g., influenza, Dengue, Zika, Marburg) to facilitate host cell entry and infection. By targeting the host's endogenous furin, BOS-981 aims to prevent the maturation and pathogenicity of these pathogens. Originally developed by GSK and now under development by Boston Pharmaceuticals, the drug is being explored for infectious diseases, cystic fibrosis, and vascular conditions. It has received Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) and Fast Track designations from the FDA.
