Overview

Boscalid is a broad-spectrum fungicide belonging to the carboxamide (anilide) class. It acts as an inhibitor of succinate dehydrogenase (complex II) in the mitochondrial respiratory chain of fungi, binding at the quinone reduction site and preventing ubiquinone from functioning. This disrupts both the tricarboxylic acid cycle and electron transport chain in fungal cells, leading to inhibition of ATP production and cell death. Boscalid is effective against a wide range of crop pathogens including Alternaria species, Botrytis cinerea (gray mold), Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (white mold), and Uncinula necator (powdery mildew). It was first developed by BASF and introduced commercially in 2002 under the brand name Endura. Boscalid is primarily used in agriculture for fruits, soybeans, vegetables, and turfgrass protection[1][4][6].
