Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Boswellic acids extract is a natural plant-derived therapeutic agent obtained from the resin of *Boswellia sacra*. Developed by AYUB R&D, it is currently in preclinical development for a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), asthma, psoriasis, eczema, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes, as well as peritumoral brain edema. The extract exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and prostaglandin synthesis, modulating inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha, IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, and IFN-gamma), and inhibiting Th17 cell differentiation. Additionally, it acts as a mast cell stabilizer and induces the expression of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37, contributing to its broad therapeutic potential in managing chronic inflammatory states.
