Overview
Bothrofav is an equine-derived F(ab')2 polyclonal antibody fragment antivenom developed by MicroPharm. It is specifically designed to neutralize the venom of *Bothrops lanceolatus*, also known as the Martinique lancehead snake. The venom of this species is unique for causing systemic thrombotic complications, including myocardial infarction and stroke. Bothrofav works by binding to and neutralizing the toxins within the venom, thereby preventing or mitigating the clinical effects of envenoming. It has been granted an Autorisation d'Accès Compassionnel (AAC) by the ANSM in France for use in Martinique, where the snake is endemic.
