Overview

**Bothrops-Crotalus antivenom** (soro antibotrópico-crotálico) is a bivalent, equine-derived antivenom designed to neutralize the venoms of pit vipers (*Bothrops* spp.) and rattlesnakes (*Crotalus* spp.). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of snakebite envenomings in Brazil, where it is manufactured by public institutions such as the Butantan Institute, Vital Brazil Institute, and Fundação Ezequiel Dias (FUNED) under the coordination of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The antivenom consists of purified F(ab')2 immunoglobulin fragments that bind and neutralize toxic venom components, including metalloproteinases, serine proteases, phospholipases A2, and crotoxin. While standard formulations are liquid and require a cold chain, some clinical trial contexts associate this name with an experimental freeze-dried trivalent antivenom (FDTAV) developed by the Army Institute of Biology (IBEx) and Butantan Institute, which also neutralizes *Lachesis* venoms to enable cold-chain-free storage in remote regions like the Amazon.
