*Bothrops jararaca* venom is a complex biological mixture produced by the Brazilian pit viper, containing a diverse array of proteins including snake venom metalloproteinases (SVMPs), serine proteinases, phospholipases A2 (PLA2), and L-amino acid oxidases (LAAOs). Historically, the venom's bradykinin-potentiating peptides served as the basis for the development of the antihypertensive drug captopril. Current research focuses on the venom's anti-tumorigenic potential, particularly in breast cancer. Studies on MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines indicate that sub-toxic doses of the venom can modulate the cancer cell proteome, affecting pathways related to metabolism, the proteasome, and mRNA splicing. The venom induces cytotoxicity by disrupting cell membranes, increasing intracellular calcium influx, and triggering the release of cytochrome C, which leads to apoptosis in malignant cells.
