Overview

**Botulinum neurotoxin type A-DP** is a specific pharmaceutical preparation of botulinum neurotoxin type A, a potent neurotoxic protein derived from the bacterium *Clostridium botulinum*. Its principal mechanism of action is the inhibition of acetylcholine release from peripheral cholinergic nerve terminals, which is achieved by internalization of the toxin into nerve cells and subsequent cleavage of the SNARE protein SNAP-25. This block leads to targeted, reversible paralysis of muscles or glands at the injection site. Clinically, botulinum neurotoxin type A products—including type A-DP formulations—are used to treat a range of neuromuscular disorders characterized by involuntary muscle activity (such as dystonias, spasticity, and hemifacial spasm), autonomic dysfunction (such as hyperhidrosis and sialorrhea), as well as for chronic migraine prevention and cosmetic indications for reduction of facial wrinkles[1][2][3][4][5][6].
