Drug intelligence / Profile preview
botulinum toxin + dimercaprol is a hypothetical or non-existent combination drug formulation. Botulinum toxin is a highly potent neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium *Clostridium botulinum* that acts as a neuromuscular blocker by binding to synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) and cleaving SNARE proteins (such as SNAP-25), thereby preventing acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction. Dimercaprol (British Anti-Lewisite) is a small molecule chelating agent containing sulfhydryl groups that bind to heavy metals (such as arsenic, mercury, gold, and lead) to form stable, non-toxic, excretable complexes. There is no known clinical development, therapeutic rationale, or approved product combining these two distinct agents.
