Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AGN 151607 is a highly purified, animal- and human-product-free formulation of botulinum toxin type A developed by Allergan (now AbbVie). It is a biologic neurotoxin designed for temporary neuromodulation of the cardiac autonomic nervous system. The drug works by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine from presynaptic cholinergic nerve terminals, specifically targeting the ganglionic plexi located in epicardial fat pads. AGN 151607 was primarily developed to prevent post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing open-chest cardiac surgery, such as coronary artery bypass grafting or valve procedures, by suppressing the autonomic triggers of arrhythmia. It has also been evaluated in clinical studies for the treatment of heart failure.
