Overview

BotVax B is a USDA-approved monovalent toxoid vaccine used for the prevention of equine botulism caused by Clostridium botulinum Type B in healthy horses. It contains purified, inactivated (toxoid) form of the type B toxin adsorbed onto aluminum phosphate and preserved with thimerosal. The vaccine stimulates an immune response without causing disease, providing active immunity to vaccinated horses and passive immunity to foals via immunized pregnant mares. It is safe for use in adult horses, pregnant mares, and foals as young as two weeks old. Botulism Type B accounts for over 85% of equine cases and can be rapidly fatal; vaccination is considered critical preventive care according to AAEP guidelines[1][2][3][4][5][7][8].
