Overview

BOW080 is a proposed biosimilar version of eculizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting complement component C5 to inhibit terminal complement activation and the formation of the membrane attack complex. By blocking C5 cleavage to C5a and C5b, it is intended to prevent complement-mediated intravascular hemolysis and thrombotic microangiopathy, mirroring the mechanism of the reference biologic Soliris (eculizumab) in ultra-rare complement-driven blood disorders such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.[1][5][6][9][11]
