Overview
BP-80 is a soluble recombinant form of the CD80 (B7-1) protein currently under development by BriaPro Therapeutics, a subsidiary of BriaCell Therapeutics. CD80 is a natural ligand that plays a dual role in T-cell regulation by binding to the stimulatory receptor CD28 and the inhibitory receptor CTLA-4. BP-80 is designed to function as an immunotherapy for cancer by acting as a checkpoint modulator; it binds to and blocks the CTLA-4 pathway (inhibiting immune suppression) while potentially engaging the CD28 pathway to enhance T-cell activation and anti-tumor immune responses. The intellectual property for this soluble CD80 technology was originally developed at and licensed from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
