Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BP05 is a biosimilar of ranibizumab (reference product: Lucentis) being developed by CuraTeQ Biologics, a subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma. It is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody fragment (Fab) that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By binding to VEGF-A, BP05 prevents the interaction of VEGF with its receptors (VEGFR1 and VEGFR2) on the surface of endothelial cells, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of vascular cells and reducing pathologic neovascularization and leakage in the retina. It is administered via intravitreal injection and is primarily indicated for the treatment of wet (neovascular) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As of early 2026, the drug is in Phase 3 clinical development.
