BP1.7881 is a selective histamine H4 receptor (H4R) antagonist being developed by Bioprojet Pharma for the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The H4 receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed on immune cells such as eosinophils, mast cells, and T-lymphocytes, where it mediates chemotaxis and inflammatory mediator release. In the context of EoE, H4R activation contributes to the recruitment of eosinophils to the esophageal mucosa and the amplification of Th2-mediated allergic inflammation. By blocking H4R signaling, BP1.7881 aims to reduce eosinophilic infiltration and associated tissue remodeling. The candidate is an orally bioavailable small molecule currently in Phase 2 development, representing a potential non-steroidal therapeutic option for patients with this chronic immune-mediated condition.
