Overview

BP1223 is an investigational bispecific antibody developed by BrightPath Biotherapeutics that simultaneously targets CD39 and CD3. CD39 (ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase 1) is an ectoenzyme frequently overexpressed on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells and within the tumor microenvironment, where it facilitates the conversion of extracellular ATP into immunosuppressive adenosine. By binding to CD3 on T cells and CD39 on malignant cells, BP1223 acts as a T-cell engager, redirecting T-cell cytotoxicity to induce the lysis of CD39-positive cancer cells. The drug is currently in preclinical development for hematologic malignancies, including AML, multiple myeloma (MM), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), with preclinical data presented at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting in 2024.
