BP180 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of BP180, also known as Collagen XVII (COL17A1). BP180 is a type II transmembrane protein that serves as a structural component of hemidesmosomes, which mediate the adhesion of epithelial cells to the underlying basement membrane. In certain cancers, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, BP180 is aberrantly expressed or cleaved into a pro-migratory form (BP120), facilitating tumor cell invasion and metastasis. By knocking down BP180 expression, this siRNA inhibits the pro-invasive signaling associated with BP180 cleavage and disrupts the assembly of hemidesmosomes, thereby reducing the migratory and invasive potential of cancer cells. It has been utilized in preclinical research to investigate the mechanisms of somatostatin-induced tumor suppression and the role of hemidesmosome assembly in blocking cancer cell invasiveness.
