BP2201 is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of natural killer T (NKT) cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Developed by BrightPath Biotherapeutics in collaboration with RIKEN, BP2201 is specifically designed for the treatment of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC). The therapy utilizes the company's proprietary iPS-NKT platform, which enables the mass production of homogeneous, high-quality NKT cells from an iPS Master Cell Bank derived from healthy donors, addressing the clinical challenge of the low natural frequency of NKT cells in peripheral blood. BP2201 exerts its anti-tumor effects through a multifaceted mechanism that includes direct cytotoxicity against tumor cells and the orchestration of systemic anti-tumor immunity by activating other innate and adaptive immune cells. The therapy has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for safety and efficacy in patients with advanced or recurrent HNSCC.
