Overview

BP5-C is a synthetic peptide derived from the C-terminal region of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 5 (IGFBP-5). It is being investigated as a novel angiogenesis inhibitor and tumor suppressor for the treatment of ovarian cancer. The peptide exerts its anti-cancer activity by inhibiting the Akt/ERK and NF-kB signaling pathways, which subsequently leads to the downregulation of pro-angiogenic and invasive factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). Preclinical studies in orthotopic and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse models have demonstrated that BP5-C significantly reduces tumor weight and suppresses neovascularization, highlighting its potential as a targeted therapeutic candidate.
