Overview

BPDO-1603 is an oral, fixed-dose combination drug developed by Hyundai Pharmaceutical for the treatment of moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease. It combines two active pharmaceutical ingredients: donepezil hydrochloride (10 mg) and memantine hydrochloride (20 mg) per tablet. Donepezil is a centrally acting, selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that enhances cholinergic neurotransmission by increasing acetylcholine levels in the brain, thereby supporting cognitive function. Memantine is an NMDA receptor antagonist that modulates glutamatergic activity to protect neurons from excitotoxicity associated with excessive glutamate signaling. The combination aims to simplify treatment regimens and improve adherence in patients with Alzheimer's disease[3][7][9]. Clinical trials have evaluated its safety, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy; however, phase 3 data did not demonstrate statistical superiority over donepezil monotherapy[9].
