Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BPL-5MeO is a liquid nasal spray formulation of 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT), a potent psychedelic tryptamine. Developed by Beckley Psytech, it was primarily investigated for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The drug acts as an agonist at serotonin receptors, with high affinity for the 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A subtypes, which are thought to mediate its rapid-acting antidepressant effects and psychedelic experiences. In a Phase 1 first-in-human study (BPL-5MeO-101), the liquid formulation demonstrated a favorable safety profile and dose-proportional pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers. However, Beckley Psytech has since discontinued development of the liquid spray in favor of BPL-003, a dry powder nasal spray formulation of 5-MeO-DMT, which is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials.
