Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BPL human rabies immune globulin (BPL HRIG) is a plasma-derived biologic developed by Bio Products Laboratory for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. It consists of high-titer neutralizing antibodies (immunoglobulins) harvested from the plasma of human donors who have been immunized against the rabies virus. When administered following exposure to a rabid or suspected rabid animal, it provides immediate passive immunity by delivering pre-formed antibodies that neutralize the rabies virus at the site of entry, preventing its progression to the central nervous system. This product is typically used in conjunction with a rabies vaccine series to provide both immediate passive protection and long-term active immunity.
