Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BPT-001 is a synthetic, intranasal formulation of 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT), a potent psychedelic compound being developed by Beckley Psytech. It acts primarily as a high-affinity agonist at the 5-HT2A and 5-HT1A serotonin receptors. Unlike other psychedelics such as psilocybin, 5-MeO-DMT is characterized by a rapid onset and a significantly shorter duration of psychedelic experience, typically lasting between 15 to 45 minutes. This short duration is intended to reduce the clinical resource burden and improve patient throughput in a therapeutic setting. Beckley Psytech is currently evaluating BPT-001 in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), where it is administered in combination with psychological support to facilitate rapid and sustained therapeutic outcomes.
