BPV11NO is a specific dosage and administration protocol of bupivacaine used in a clinical study (NCT02443311) conducted by Seoul Medical Center. It refers to the intrathecal administration of 11 mg of hyperbaric bupivacaine in patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 27.5 kg/m² undergoing total knee replacement arthroplasty. Bupivacaine is a long-acting local anesthetic of the amide group. Its primary mechanism of action involves the reversible blockade of voltage-gated sodium channels in nerve fibers. By binding to these channels, bupivacaine prevents the influx of sodium ions required for membrane depolarization, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of sensory and motor nerve impulses. This specific trial arm was designed to evaluate the median effective dose (ED50) of bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia in non-obese individuals.
