Overview

BPV7NO is a study-specific designation for a 7 mg dose of intrathecal hyperbaric bupivacaine administered to patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 27.5 kg/m² (non-obese group). This specific dosing regimen was evaluated in a clinical trial conducted by Seoul Medical Center to determine the median effective dose (ED50) of bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia in patients undergoing total knee replacement arthroplasty. Bupivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by binding to the intracellular portion of voltage-gated sodium channels. This binding blocks sodium influx into nerve cells, preventing depolarization and the subsequent propagation of nerve impulses, which results in regional anesthesia and analgesia.
