BPZE1 is a live attenuated, genetically modified intranasal pertussis vaccine designed to prevent infection, disease, and transmission caused by *Bordetella pertussis* (whooping cough). It contains genetic modifications that eliminate, attenuate, or inactivate three different *B. pertussis* toxins. The vaccine induces both mucosal and systemic immune responses—primarily Th1-polarized T cell responses—and robust memory B cell formation. Developed as a next-generation alternative to current acellular and whole-cell pertussis vaccines, BPZE1 aims to address the limitations of existing vaccines by providing more comprehensive and durable protection against colonization and disease. The vaccine was originally developed at the Institut Pasteur de Lille and Inserm by Dr. Camille Locht’s team and is being advanced clinically by ILiAD Biotechnologies[1][2][3][4][5].
