Overview

Brahmansi is a herbal combination therapy developed by Dr. Abdulmubeen Abdulqayyum Mundewadi for the treatment of schizophrenia. The formulation consists of aqueous extracts of *Bacopa monnieri* (Jal Brahmi) and *Nardostachys jatamansi* (Jatamansi) in a 4:1 ratio, standardized to specific concentrations of bacosides and volatile oils. According to the developer, the *Bacopa monnieri* component is intended to manage the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as social withdrawal and lack of motivation, while the *Nardostachys jatamansi* component addresses positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions. Clinical evidence from a 200-patient trial suggests that Brahmansi, administered at high doses (2g Brahmi and 500mg Jatamansi thrice daily), is as effective as the antipsychotic olanzapine in reducing PANSS scores, but with a superior safety profile, specifically lacking the significant weight gain associated with allopathic treatments.
