Overview

Bravasa is a branded generic formulation of mesalazine (also known as mesalamine) produced and marketed by Sinsan Pharmaceuticals. It is available as a 1200mg tablet and is primarily indicated for the management of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Mesalazine belongs to the salicylate class of medications and exerts its therapeutic effects locally in the gastrointestinal tract. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, which leads to a reduction in the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Additionally, mesalazine acts as an agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma), further modulating the inflammatory response in the colonic mucosa. These actions help to alleviate symptoms such as rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
