Overview

BRC-003 is an investigational high-cannabidiol (CBD) botanical extract being evaluated as an add-on therapy for adults with refractory post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE). As a plant-derived product, its primary active ingredient is CBD, which is thought to exert anticonvulsant effects through several mechanisms, including the antagonism of G protein-coupled receptor 55 (GPR55), desensitization of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1), and inhibition of adenosine reuptake via equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1 (ENT1). The drug is currently being studied in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT05061706) sponsored by Dr. Paul Lyons, which consists of an open-label dose-finding phase (Part A) and a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase (Part B) to evaluate safety, efficacy, and impact on quality of life in patients with PTE.
