Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BREATHOX® is an inhaled hypertonic sodium chloride therapy delivered via a specialized device as a dispersible powder. It contains 2.0 mg of sodium chloride with particle sizes optimized (1-10 μm) for deposition in the respiratory tract. Developed by LIITA Care, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute symptoms associated with COVID-19 in non-hospitalized adults. The mechanism of action relies on the inhibitory effect of high sodium chloride concentrations on SARS-CoV-2 viral replication, a phenomenon observed in vitro. Clinical evaluation in a Phase 2 trial (NCT05196581) suggested potential efficacy in reducing the duration of COVID-19-induced coughing.
