Overview

Brella (Brella SweatControl Patch) is a non-invasive medical device developed by Candesant Biomedical for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) in adults. The device consists of a single-use disposable patch containing pure metallic sodium. It utilizes a novel mechanism called targeted alkali thermolysis (TAT); when applied to the underarm by a healthcare provider, the sodium reacts with the water in the patient's sweat to generate localized heat. This controlled thermal energy causes microthermal injury to the sweat glands, effectively inactivating them for a period of two to four months. FDA-cleared in April 2023, Brella offers an aluminum-free and needle-free alternative to existing hyperhidrosis treatments.
