Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Brelovitug (also known as BJT-778) is an investigational, highly potent, pan-genotypic, fully human immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody that targets the surface antigen (HBsAg) of both hepatitis D virus (HDV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). By binding to HBsAg, brelovitug neutralizes and removes hepatitis B and D virions and depletes HBsAg-containing subviral particles. This mechanism is designed to reduce viral load in patients with chronic hepatitis delta (CHD), a severe form of viral hepatitis associated with rapid progression to liver cirrhosis, cancer, and death. In addition to its antiviral effects, brelovitug has demonstrated immunomodulatory functions in chronic hepatitis B patients that may help reconstitute antiviral immunity when used in combination regimens. Bluejay Therapeutics owns worldwide rights to brelovitug and is developing it for the treatment of CHD and chronic HBV infection. The drug has received Breakthrough Therapy designation from the FDA for CHD as well as Orphan Drug status from regulatory agencies[1][2][3][4][5][6].
