Brillphalac

Brillphalac is a branded lactulose oral solution developed and marketed by Windzor Pharmaceutical. As an osmotic laxative, it consists of a nondigestible synthetic disaccharide that remains unabsorbed in the gastrointestinal tract until it reaches the colon. There, it is fermented by colonic bacteria into low-molecular-weight organic acids, which increases osmotic pressure and acidifies the colonic contents. This action draws water into the bowel, softening the stool and promoting peristalsis. Brillphalac is indicated for the treatment of constipation and was launched in the Irish market in early 2024, available in both prescription and over-the-counter sizes.
