brimonidine purite

Brimonidine Purite is a reformulated ophthalmic solution of brimonidine tartrate preserved with Purite, a stabilized oxychloro complex. It is a relatively selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist used topically to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The drug acts by reducing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow, resulting in decreased IOP. The Purite preservative was introduced to improve tolerability compared to older formulations using benzalkonium chloride, while maintaining efficacy. Brimonidine-Purite is available in 0.1% and 0.15% concentrations; both have been shown to be equally effective for IOP lowering and are well tolerated[5][6]. The main brand name for this formulation is Alphagan P.
