brimonidine tartrate + brinzolamide

SJP-0135 is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing brimonidine tartrate and brinzolamide, developed by Senju Pharmaceutical for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Brimonidine tartrate is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) by decreasing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow. Brinzolamide is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II), which reduces IOP by decreasing the rate of aqueous humor secretion in the ciliary processes of the eye. This combination therapy is designed to provide enhanced IOP lowering by utilizing two distinct mechanisms of action in a single multi-dose formulation. It is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in Japan, where it is being compared to other fixed-dose combinations such as brimonidine/timolol.
