Overview

Brimonidine transdermal lotion is an experimental topical formulation of brimonidine, a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, developed by Dr. Padma Nanduri. Unlike conventional ophthalmic eye drops, this formulation is designed to be applied to the external skin of the eyelid for transdermal delivery to the eye. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug works by lowering intraocular pressure through a dual mechanism: reducing the production of aqueous humor and increasing uveoscleral outflow. This delivery method aims to provide a more convenient or better-tolerated alternative to traditional eye drops.
